Expands the Conscious Mind
For spiritual growth to take place, we must let go of our ego. When we practice meditation, our conscious mind expands and we're able to reach a more elevated level of consciousness. When we let our ego control our thoughts, it's easy to become lost in the patterns of every-day life.
In this state, we become more aware of our own selves and any flaws with our old way of thinking are addressed. It's at this moment that we're able to accept that the universe is much more than our ego or "selves" completing habitual patterns.
Allows for Mindfulness
When meditating, you become present in the moment. This is also called, "mindfulness." Mindfulness is when we no longer worry about past occurrences or build anxiety about future ones.
Instead, we place ourselves in that very moment. We don't live in the past or the future. We only live in the now.
When we're able to relieve ourselves of past and future troubles, we're able to truly live. The now is the only moment that our souls are alive, so it's the only moment that our minds should focus on.
When you're aware of the current moment, you allow spiritual growth.
Removes Attachment
Pain is caused by attachments. When we hold onto things, we become attached to them. These attachments lead to pain because nothing in this universe is truly ours to hold onto. We must understand that everything in our life will leave us at some point in time.
This can be one of the hardest parts of meditation to accept. When you're able to let go of all attachments, you understand that our spirits and souls exist further than the materialistic part of the world.
Many beings find attachments to the materialistic world, which they then use to identify themselves. For example, when you say things similar to, "I'm a teacher," "I practice this religion," and so on, we're attaching ourselves to the things around us.
Meditation allows us to remove all attachments and free ourselves from the materialistic world. Don't limit your soul and spirit by becoming attached to things you can't control. This is why so many people live unhappy or stressful lives.
When the materialistic world isn't giving some people what they need, they feel unhappy. Unattach yourself from the materialistic world, and you'll suffer less pain.
Reduces Stress
Meditation is a great tool for reducing stress. This is true no matter what type of meditation you practice. Whether you plan a visit at a meditation and yoga spa like this retreat, or simply take a few moments to yourself to practice breathing exercises, you're on your way to reducing stress.
To find true spiritual growth, you need to be fully relaxed and at peace. This can't be done while stressed out about work, errands needing to get done, and so on. When you meditate, you become so consumed in the present moment, that you forget about all of those things causing you stress.
You begin to focus on your own breath, the things you hear around you, smells, the way your entire body feels in your meditation position. Focusing on all of these things makes the idea of stress impossible.
Helps You Let Go of Things You Can't Control
Through meditation, we're able to let go of those things that we can't control. It seems that some of the most stressful, hurtful, painful experiences that we go through are experiences out of our control.
The main reason why we try so hard to stay in control of everything around us is that we often envision what will happen if we lose this control. We fear what might happen and therefore feel the need to control certain outcomes.
The truth, however, is that we are not in control. We have no control over other's actions, the weather, unfortunate events, and plenty more. Meditation allows spiritual growth because we're able to let go of these things we can't control and focus on accepting what comes our way.
Helps You Discover Your True Self
Spiritual meditation is a way to discover your true self. It's a time for self-reflection and self-awareness. You're able to let go of all the things that have happened in your past as those things don't define you.
You're able to remove all of those thoughts that you once had about yourself and reflect on how you can become a better you.
