Throat Chakra - Vishuddhaa
The fifth chakra is located in the throat and neck area, which relates to speech, hearing, communication and self expression. Blockages in this area manifests as problems like sore throats, laryngitis and creative blocks or general problems communicating with others.
Having a healthy throat chakra can ensure that you are able to express yourself and your own ideas, while peacefully communicating and listening to others. Expressing yourself by standing up to your word and being reliable is the way to balance this chakra. Acting and saying what you mean and keeping commitments to others is important to develop and heighten this chakra.
Having a closed throat chakra means that you are unable to voice your own ideas and are threatened by other people's opinions. You can also become confused, anxious and not know which path or direction to take. On the extreme, you can sometimes be too clingy to other individuals or an idea or way of life, even if it could be damaging to you, or you may talk a lot without saying anything important. An unhealthy throat chakra can bring upon neck and throat discomforts, teeth and gum irritations, ear infections, mouth sores or headaches or migraines.
Using the sound of your voice to sing, hum or recite a mantra can be very liberating. This is especially true if you're quite shy, not a very vocal person and tend to avoid Karaoke. The sound of "om" is known as the universal sound that is sacred. The vibrational tone of the word can fill your mind and body with its resonance. Many people are surprised by the amount of tension there is in their throat and voice.
