Start Your Morning Right

The tone of your entire day can be set by how you start you day. Whether you’re a high powered executive, a busy mom, or both, it’s important to kick start your morning with a positive routine to boost your mood and increase your energy.
Morning stretches paired with a healthy breakfast can be an excellent combination to start your day off on the right foot. It’s a great way to work out any kinks and loosen your muscles, open your mind to the possibilities at hand, and fuel yourself to welcome a new day. And with you modeling a positive attitude and energetic outlook from the get go, the rest of your family is bound to get off to a solid start, as well.
Get Yourself Moving
Many of us have office jobs that lend themselves to a very sedentary daily routine. The flip side of that is you also may be so busy (can you say kids, carpool, traffic, work, deadlines, homework, activities, dinner, homework, bathtime, bedtime?!) that it’s difficult to find time later in the day to exercise or even stretch. Try building it into your morning routine instead. You can start by brightening your day as soon as you get up. Open your blinds, or if your bedroom has outdoor access, step outside and soak up some Vitamin D.
Mindfully set your intention for the day. Do some simple side stretches and standing backbends. Stretch your hamstrings to release those muscles that will be shortened by sitting all day. Explore stretches or poses that feel good and release any lingering tension or tightness from the night before. Not only will this get your blood pumping and muscles moving a bit, it will improve your breathing. Breathing better in the morning leads to better breathing all day, which elevates your brain’s oxygen level, helps ward off stress, and allows you be able to relax.
Fuel Your Body
Follow this with a healthy breakfast. You don’t want to undo the good you’ve already started by washing it down with a donut full of empty calories, or even worse, no breakfast at all. Your body needs some fuel to power it up and get your metabolism going.
You’ve probably read countless articles recently about powerhouse breakfast ingredients like oats, Greek yogurt, grapefruit, bananas, eggs, almond butter, and strawberries. Even coffee has made the list as long as you minimize the milk and sugar. But you don’t have to stick to the same boring fruit and yogurt parfait or bland scrambled eggs. Mix it up a bit. Make egg and banana pancakes (yes, you read that right, only two ingredients, and they are good for you!). Layer them with almond butter. Put a little agave or maple syrup on top, and add some diced strawberries and sliced bananas.
Or if you prefer something lighter, slice a grapefruit in half, section it, and sprinkle it with cinnamon, honey, and some chopped pecans, and broil it until golden delicious. Create a variety of tasty refrigerated fruit, oat, and yogurt concoctions you can prepare the night before for easy access in the morning. There is a plethora of simple, delicious, and nutritious possibilities to incorporate into your morning. Pair one of them with a cup of coffee served with cinnamon and a splash of almond milk creamer, and you’ll be ready to take on the world.
Go Get ‘Em!
Making minor adjustments in your morning routine can make a world of difference in how your day starts and sets the tone for everything else that follows. You don’t have to run a 10k, meditate for an hour, or prepare a feast. Simply incorporate some basic stretching and a good, healthy breakfast, and you’ll be feel more prepared to conquer the day. You’ll be more energized, feel more confident, and be fully powered to meet whatever challenges may come your way.
